Quick-Start Guide

Creating New Audience Segments For Activation

  • Viewership Segments

    • Go to Audiences icon in the left-hand toolbar of the dashboard and select "New Audience".






















       

    • Select "Viewership" in Filter Categories.






















       

    • Click "New Program Set" on left column of the screen.






     

    • Select the type of program set you would like to build (Network, Station, Program, Episode, Genre, or Common Timeline) and click "Next" at the bottom right. In this example we will select the "Programs" type.
      Each element follows the same general guidelines for searching unique content within our data-set. Select the option that aligns with the audience programming you want to build. 
























     

    • The search function is used in all program types and can be found on the top left tool bar and can be set to search by titles that "Contain" or "Start With". We suggest you pick the option "Start With" to look for your program titles.
       

    • Once content is found and selected, click "Next" to Select Network Filters.






















       

    • If you want to include viewership on all Networks, click "Next" again, and "Next" on the following step Select Programming Types. If you want viewership of a specific Network, type the Network name in the search bar on the left-hand side, then select the Network from the list in the center. The selected Network will appear on the right-hand side of the screen. Click "Next" and then "Next" on the following step Select Programming Types.























       

    • Name/save your Program Set (bottom right).






















       

    • Your Program Set will now appear in your Viewership panel and you can proceed to define your audience's viewership parameters.






















       

    • Enter the specific Date Range of interest (e.g., original air dates), or chose any other Date Range option from below:
       

      • Date Parameter Definitions:
         

        • This week: Viewers that tuned in at any point in the current week (Most recent Monday)
           

        • Last Week: Viewers that tuned at any point from Monday to Sunday of LAST week
           

        • This Month: Viewers that tuned in at any point starting the 1st of the month (If the build date is January 4, you will only capture 4 days of viewership)
           

        • Specific Relative Day Range: Commonly used for set day look-back and reoccurring segments, any day range can be input. (90-day look-back = 90 - 0)
           

        • Specific Date Range: As implied, select any date-range within the last 3 years

           

    • Keep all the default settings for the remaining parameters (fields that are highlighted in green are selected) or customize the Viewership Segment Qualifiers. 
      See the section on Viewing Qualifiers (Basic) or (Advanced) for more details.

       

    • Click "Next" and "Next" on the following step Define Your Universe.
























       

    • Name/Save your audience.

    • Select the previously build Program set from the left toolbar column.






















       

    • Enter the Specific Date Range of interest (e.g., original air dates), or chose any other Date Range option.
      See the section on "Basic - Selecting Timeframe and accepting default Parameters" for more details. 
       

    • Keep all the defaults for the remaining parameters. 
      See the section on
      "Basic - Selecting Timeframe and accepting default Parameters" for more details, or the section "Advanced - Defining Viewership Segment Qualifiers" to set custom parameters.
       

    • Then click "Next" and "Next" on the following step Define Your Universe, and "Name/Save" your Audience

  • In your account, the ”Define Your Segment” fields are pre-selected to default parameters based on industry best practices. (Fields that are green are selected)

     

    When building an audience, “Date Range” is the only field that must be completed by the user to move forward with building a new audience.

     

    Date Range Parameter Definitions:
     

    • This week: Viewers that tuned in at any point in the current week (Most recent Monday).
       

    • Last Week: Viewers that tuned in at any point from Monday to Sunday of LAST week.
       

    • This Month: Viewers that tuned in at any point starting the 1st of the month (If the build date is January 4, you will only capture 4 days of viewership).
       

    • Specific Relative Day Range: Commonly used for set day look-back and reoccurring segments, any day range can be input. (90-day look-back = 90 - 0).
       

    • Specific Date Range: As implied, select any date-range within the last 3 years.

    Keep all other parameters to default setting, then click "Next" and "Next" on the following step Define Your Universe, then "Name/ Save" your audience.

  • In your account, the ”Define Your Segment” fields are pre-selected to default parameters based on industry best practices. (Fields that are green are selected to default)
     

    When building a custom audience, these parameters/qualifiers can be selected/de-selected to build a custom audience based on the below:
     

     

    • Select a Time Range:
       

      • Day Part: Based on traditional dayparts. The objects selected “green” are a required daypart for a viewing event to be counted. Example below is with Prime Time only selection.
         

      • Custom Time Range: Time Range selected is the required time range for a viewing event to be counted.















         

     

     

     

    • Time Zone: Time Zones can be selected based on use-case. However, keep as default “Local” for now.
       

    • Select an Airing Type:
       

      • All Airings: Use this as default
         

      • First Runs: Use this when filtering to first runs ONLY
         

      • Repeats: Use this when filtering to repeats ONLY

    • Select a Mode:
       

      • Mode: Objects selected “green” will be required for a viewing event to be counted. Include viewership data for live broadcasts and/or DVR viewing. The extended DVR data will not be available until the extra time period has elapsed.






         





















      •  

    Match qualifiers can be added to build a custom audience based on the below:

    • View Capping Mode: “Use Program Start Time” is default.
       

    • View Capping Threshold: Number of minutes used for view capping. 120 minutes is default.
       

    • Viewing Event Qualifier: The minimum viewing session duration (in seconds).
      Example: 300 Seconds = 5 minutes of viewership of a single program is required for the viewing event to be counted as a HH in the audience count.

       

    • Total View Duration: Duration viewed by matched HH.
       

    • Number of Objects Viewed: Number of objects viewed for viewership to be counted. This will only work for episode program sets where the program set has multiple episodes selected.
      Sports fan example: Viewers of at least 3 Dallas stars games in the last month = input of (3 – ) reference SS above.

       

    • Frequency Qualifier: Number of exposures required for a HH to be counted in a segment.
      Sporting event example: Viewers that tuned in at least 3 times to the Dallas Stars game last night – input of (3 - ) Reference SS above.

       

    • Percentiles: Select top, middle and bottom percentiles based on minutes viewed.
      Example below  = Top 20% viewers who watched the most minutes of Dallas Stars Hockey.

  • For programming that may have aired across multiple networks and stations, you can create an audience that viewed that program only on a specific Network.

    • Go to Program Sets in the left-hand toolbar to identify the programming you want and click on "New Program Set" on the bottom, right-hand side of the screen
      (
      As an example, we are using NHL Hockey Dallas Stars all Regular Season Games Viewership)
       

    • Select New Program Set > Episodes























       

    • “Search Program by Name” to help filter the results “NHL Hockey”, select "NHL Hockey" (it will appear on the right column of the screen), then click "Next".























       

    • Filter by team name in the top left search e.g. ”Stars", then select Episodes (Selected episodes appear on the right).
       

    • Click Next > Select Network Filters























       

    • Search Network or Station you want to filter by (search top left).
      Example below: Dallas Stars games that aired ONLY on Bally Sports Southwest






















       

    • Click "Next" and "Next" on the following step Select Programming Type, then "Name/ Save" your Program Set.

    • Step 1: Create your Program set:
       

      • Go to Program Sets in the left-hand toolbar of your dashboard to identify the programming you want.
         

      • Select New Program Set > Programs > and enter “NFL Football” 
























         

      • Click on the “Contains” and “Starts with” option to help filter the results
         

      • NFL Football should show up as the first item when you select “Starts with”
         

      • Click Next > Next > and name your Program Set
         

     

    • ​Step 2: Find NFL Viewers:
       

      • Go to Audiences in the left-hand toolbar to find households that watched NFL football
         

      • Select New Audience > Viewership > NFL Football
        New Audience is at the bottom, right-hand side of the screen. And NFL Football is the program set you created above.
         

      • Enter the date range of interest (e.g., November 1st to November 30th).
         

      • Accept all the defaults for the remaining parameters or customize the parameters.
         

      • Click Next > Next > and name your Audience.

Creating Viewership Audiences

Tips for Finding Specific Viewership Content 

  • Use this tactic for individual games, teams, and major sporting events for NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL, NCAA.

    • Step 1: Create Program Set

     

    • Go to Program Sets in the left-hand toolbar to identify the programming you want.
      (As an example, we are using NHL Hockey Dallas Stars Last 5 Games Viewership) 

      Note: Major sporting events such as Superbowl, The Masters, US Open, Bowl Games, Wimbledon Etc. will have their own program set under the specific event title  (Example: Programs > Search > Wimbledon 2023.

       

    • Select New Program Set > Episode.

      • (New Program Set is at the bottom, right-hand side of the screen)
         

    • Click on the “Starts with” option to help filter the results.
       

    • Search “NFL Football” “NBA Basketball” ”NHL Hockey” or “MLB Baseball”.
       

    • Select the option that aligns with the titles above as shown in the screen shot below.






















       

    • Click Next > Select Episodes (Selected episodes appear on the right).
       

      • Filter by team name in the top left search e.g. ”Stars”.
         

      • Filter by air date in “Original Air Dates”.
         

      • Select Episodes > Click Next > Name Program Set.
         

      • Example: “Dallas Stars Last 5 games”.





















         

    Step 2: Create Viewership Audience:

    • Go to Audiences in the left-hand toolbar and select "New Audience" from the bottom right-hand side of the screen.
       

    • Select  Viewership. 























       

    • Find "Dallas Stars Last 5 Games" program set you created above.






















       

    • Enter the date range of interest (e.g., original air dates).
       

    • Accept all the defaults for the remaining parameters or set your custom parameters.
       

    • Click Next > Next > and name your Audience.

  • As an example, we are using NCIS Season 18 Viewers
     

    • Step 1: Create Program Set:
       

    • Go to Program Sets in the left-hand toolbar to identify the programming you want. 

      • Select New Program Set > Episode
        New Program Set is at the bottom, right-hand side of the screen
         

      • Click on the “Starts with” option to help filter the results
         

      • Search “NCIS”
         

      • Select the first option with 1,363 episodes (bottom right of thumbnail) and click "Next".























         

    • Select Episodes (Selected episodes appear on the right)
       

      • Filter by season “Custom Range” in the bottom left filter
         

      • Filter by  in “Original Air Dates”






















         

    • Click "Next" > Select Network Filters or click "Next" if you want to include NCIS viewership on all networks > click "Next" for Select Programming Type > then "Name/ Save" your Program Set (Example: “NCIS season 18”)

       

    • Step 2: Create Viewership Audience:
       

    • Go to Audiences in the left-hand toolbar
       

    • Select New Audience from the bottom, right-hand side of the screen.
       

    • Select Viewership 






















       

    • Click on  "NCIS Season 18" that you created above.






















       

    • Enter the date range of interest (e.g., original air dates)
       

    • Accept all the defaults for the remaining parameters or customize your parameters.
       

    • Click "Next" > "Next" on following page Define your Universe > and "Name/Save" your Audience.

    • Go to Program Sets in the left-hand toolbar to identify the programming you want.

    • Select New Program Set from the bottom, right-hand side of the screen, then select "Programs" and "Next".
       

    • Click on the “Guide Lookup” option to select the station or network.























       

    • Search Stations in top left of the ”Guide Look up”.
























       

    • Add the date the programming aired and click “Search”.
       

    • Programming will appear below.
       

    • Select a program or multiple programs.
       

    • The selected programs will populate in the main program builder page (These can be actively seen in the background).
       

    • Once selected, Click "Close", then "Next" and proceed with "Naming/ Saving" the program set.

  • Household Attribute Segments

    • Go to Audiences icon in the left-hand toolbar of the dashboard and select "New Audience".






















       

    • Select "Viewership" in Filter Categories.






















       

    • Click "New Program Set" on left column of the screen.






     

    • Select the type of program set you would like to build (Network, Station, Program, Episode, Genre, or Common Timeline) and click "Next" at the bottom right. In this example we will select the "Programs" type.
